DESCRIPTION:Wildflowers: A Pop-Up Exhibit by Jason Archer is the result of sowing creative seeds\, which arrive and bloom as solo and collaborative artworks that capture his iconic characters in unrestricted expressions through medium\, color and form.\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist: Jason Archer is an American visual artist and a driving force in Austin’s contemporary art scene. Blending Pop Art with cultural archetypes\, his work creates modern myths that reimagine history\, ritual\, and natural phenomena through a distinctly Texas lens.\n\n\n\nWorking across disciplines as a director\, animator\, painter\, and muralist\, Archer’s practice spans solo exhibitions\, collaborative projects\, commissioned works\, and large-scale commercial partnerships.\n\n\n\nArcher’s work often incorporates political satire and iconic\, Texas-inspired characters such as Jesus Cornbread & the Alcoholics and Stray of the Dead. His early career in animation earned him both a Grammy and an MTV Video of the Year Award for directing and animating Frijolero\, a music video for the Mexican rock band Molotov. In 2019\, he contributed animation work to Amazon’s Emmy-nominated series Undone. From 2011–2018\, he helped reignite Austin’s mural culture as the producer and curator of Frank Public Art.\n\n\n\nHe is the co-owner of Show Goat Mural Works\, a mural company specializing in the design and installation of large-scale indoor and outdoor works\, with projects including Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium\, the Moody Center\, the Contemporary Austin\, Ottine Mineral Springs\, and ongoing collaborations with the Hi\, How Are You Project to preserve and expand the legacy of Daniel Johnston.\n\n\n\nIn addition to his public and commercial work\, Archer has participated in numerous art shows\, exhibitions\, and cultural events including Austin City Limits\, Chelsea Market\, Chianti Weekend\, SXSW\, and the inaugural Pop Austin International Art Show. Norton Art Gallery will be offering two\, week-long Theatre Camps this summer for students. Canvas to Curtain Camp 1: June 1 – 5 invites students who have completed 5th\, 6th\, and 7th grades (rising into 6th\, 7th\, or 8th grade.) \nThis summer\, let your imagination run wild at Canvas to Curtain: Bringing Art to Life\, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s one-of-a-kind theatre camp where paintings leap off the wall and into a performance! Campers will choose a piece from the museum’s permanent collection as their muse\, then dive into the creative process—writing scripts\, building characters\, and acting out original one-act plays inspired by the art. With plenty of laughs\, hands-on activities\, and time to collaborate\, it’s the perfect place to explore theatre and art at the same time! Whether you’re a born performer\, a behind-the-scenes thinker\, or just love making cool stuff with cool people\, this camp is your stage to be you! Come turn the brushstrokes into backstories\, and see what happens when you give art a new story! \nDates: Monday\, June 1 – Friday\, June 5 \nTimes: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM \nLocation: 4747 Creswell Ave. Shreveport\, LA 71106 \nFee: $30 \nAttending campers will need to be delivered to our camp staff in front of the museum no later then 7:50 AM. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp each day. We will provide each student with a snack and drink. \nStudents wishing to attend a camp need to have a parent purchase a ticket through Eventbrite.
