In the pages of "Around the Gallery" you'll see that three exhibits continue: our visiting exhibition, Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism, through 26 July; The Art of the Line: The Dore Collection, through 1 September; and Enlist! Art Goes To War, 1914-1918, where 16 new posters have been rotated into the display. Elsewhere in our permanent collection youll learn about a rifle that won the Old West, and accompany us to Kansas City to see the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
May brings lots of excitement to the museum both day and night. On May 2nd, we are hosting Derby Day, Shreveport's first celebration of all things Kentucky Derby. Created and organized by Matt Snyder, Derby Day showcases lady's and men's fashions as well as good food, wine, Mint Juleps, beer, and live music. After the race has run on the big screens, the party leaves the museum and reconvenes at Ristorante Giuseppe. May also brings our 2nd Annual Night at the Museum where our exhibits come alive. The month continues with more "new" posters to the four-year exhibit on World War I, "Enlist! Art Goes to War, 1914 to 1918." There's much more inside, and out during this beautiful month.
It's here! Spring has come to R.W. Norton Art Gallery with the blooming of thousands of azaleas. In these pages we take you outside to see the azaleas (and other flowers) and inside for art exhibits. You'll learn about the "Shreveport Derby Day" festivities on the lawn, get a glimpse of our exhibit Audubon and the Art of Birds, and learn about coming attractions, such as additional posters in our World War I exhibit, Enlist! Art Goes to War, 1914-1918 and the Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism, on display in May and June. Follow the recipe for Tarte aux Fraises, a dessert of strawberry tarts.
